(VOVWORLD) - Energy prices, climate change, and the latest developments of the Covid-19 pandemic will be the main topics discussed at the EU Summit, which will take place Thursday and Friday in Brussels, Belgium.
In his invitation letter to the members of the European Council ahead of their meeting, President Charles Michel said energy prices will be the first topic EU members will discuss. Europe is facing an energy crisis, with energy prices in most of Europe skyrocketing in the past few weeks, threatening Europe's post-pandemic economic recovery and already impacting people's lives.
Combating climate change will also be a priority for discussion. Michel said European countries need to be ambitious in setting a common goal at the COP26 Climate Summit to be held later this month in Scotland.
Another topic of the EU Summit will be the recent decision of the Polish Constitutional Court affirming the primacy of Polish law over EU law.
With winter approaching and Covid-19 infections showing signs of rapidly increasing again in parts of Europe, the EU Summit will discuss speeding up vaccination and increasing vaccine support to other countries.
The EU's trade strategy, immigration policy, and preparations for the ASEM and Eastern Partnership summits will also be on the table.
