(VOVWORLD) - The EU’s chief Brexit negotiator Michael Barnier on Thursday said the UK should finalize its financial contribution to the EU and accelerate the negotiation process in exchange for a free trade deal after its departure.

Barnier said the EU is waiting for the UK’s clear commitment to detailed issues including the Northern Ireland border, EU citizens, and the divorce bill. He added that he will “listen carefully and constructively” to UK Prime Minister Theresa May’s Friday speech in Florence, Italy.
