One of the exciting activities that attracted a large number of participants and spectators was the ethnic sports and traditional games of the Mong ethnic people held at Mu Cang Chai stadium. They included throwing cloth ball, beating drums blindfolded, walking on stilts, tug of war, and pushing sticks. The festivities created an atmosphere of solidarity, joy and excitement among the highlanders.
The people living near the Vietnam-Laos border eagerly gathered at the Long Sap border gate area, Moc Chau district, Son La province, to participate in cultural and sports activities. Long Sap is a border commune about 30 km from the center of Moc Chau district and has a national border gate with Laos. Long Sap border gate has become a center for buying, selling, and exchanging goods between ethnic minorities on both sides of the border, especially between the people of two districts of Vietnam’s Moc Chau and Laos’s Sop Bau in Hua Phan province. At Long Sap border gate, ethnic minorities people competed in sports, folk games, and cultural performances imbued with ethnic identities.
