(VOVWORLD) -Former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr on Wednesday announced victory in the Philippines’ presidential election, vowing to be a leader "for all Filipinos".
According to preliminary results, Mr. Marcos Jr won more than 56% of the votes, more than double the votes of his immediate rival, Liberal candidate Leni Robredo. If confirmed by the Philippine Election Commission, he will become President-elect of the Southeast Asian country.
Ferdinand Marcos Jr, 64, is the son of late President Ferdinand Marcos.
In the May 9 election, the Filipinos also cast their ballots to elect a new vice president. The vote counting results showed that Sara Duterte, the daughter of incumbent President Rodrigo Duterte, has won.
