(VOVWORLD) - US and Chinese top officials concluded on Friday their two days of meetings in Alaska with no results being disclosed.
Their first high-level in-person talks since President Joe Biden took office featured a rare and fiery kickoff that signaled their tension and rivalry.
Responding to reporters following the meeting, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that differences remained but the two sides had intersecting interests on Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan, and climate change. On economics, trade, and technology, the Biden administration will move forward in a way that totally protects and advances the interests of American workers and businesses, he said.
“There are two things that we wanted to do when coming here for meeting with the Chinese counterparts. We wanted to share with them the significant concerns that we have about a number of the actions that China has taken, and behaviors exhibiting concerns, shared by our allies and partners. And we did that," Blinken told reporters.
"We also wanted to lay out very clearly, our own policies, priorities, and worldview. And we did that too.”
Members of China’s delegation left the meeting without speaking to reporters. China’s media quoted top diplomat Yang Jiechi as saying that the discussions were constructive and beneficial, but there were still differences.
