(VOVWORLD) - A convoy of 40 trucks with humanitarian aid arrived in Syria’s eastern city Deir ez-Zor on Thursday, a few days after ISIS’s siege of the city was broken by the Syrian Arab Army and National Defence Forces.
This is the first humanitarian aid to reach Deir ez-Zor in 3 years, according to Syrian officials. Backed by Russian air support, Syria's army expanded a safe corridor on the western outskirts of the city for the aid to pass through. Part of Deir ez-Zor, including a key military airport, is still trapped by ISIS.
