China’s Xinhua featured Mr. Trong’s  biography, quoted his oath of office, and said China’s Party leader and President Xi Jingping has sent a congratulatory message to Mr. Trong. Russia’s TASS quoted President Vladimir Putin’s statement that Mr. Trong’s election reflects his reputation for government service and acknowledges his contributions to Vietnam’s economic development and growing prestige. Other news agencies, including AFP, Reuters, AP, and Kyodo, ran stories on Mr. Trong’s election as President of Vietnam.
