Four countries in Southern Mekong River basin promote tourism
(VOVWORLD) - Delegates from Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam met in Can Tho city on Wednesday to seek ways to promote tourism in the Southern Mekong River basin.

The 6th Meeting of the Greater Mekong Sub-region Southern Tourism Corridor helped the four countries define their development plans, design trans-national tours, and boost multilateral cooperation in creating a more attractive tourist route to lure additional investment.
Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Head of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, said: “The four countries in the GMS Southern Corridor have received plentiful investment in tourism and seen a growing number of tourists within the corridor and from other regions. They have initiated multiple programs and action plans to boost connectivity, including a project drafted by Vietnam on waterway tourism development within the ASEAN cooperation framework which has received World Bank support.”
The Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office (MTCO) has reported that in 2018 the four countries of the Southern Mekong River basin welcomed 63 million foreign arrivals, up 10% from 2017. Tourism generated 96 million USD.
