At a press conference, German Chancellor Angela Merkel called the bill an important milestone in the integration of refugees into German society and said she hopes migrants will seize the opportunity for successful integration.
Under the bill, a refugee with an excellent command of the German language and capable of meeting their own needs can receive a permanent visa within three years. The usual procedure requires an applicant to wait at least five years before applying for a permanent visa. The bill is expected to result in an additional 100,000 employed refugees and asylum seekers.
