(VOVWORLD) - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Tran Dai Quang, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan have attended an online conference with localities on implementation of socio-economic development plans and state budget estimates for 2018.
Opening the conference in Hanoi on Thursday, the government’s most important event with localities, Prime Minister Phuc said all targets set by the National Assembly have been achieved with economic growth reaching 6.81%, the highest in 7 years. Defense, security, foreign affairs, and social affairs recorded positive results, which Mr. Phuc said will create greater trust of the people and foreign friends in a peaceful, stable, and more prosperous Vietnam.
The Prime Minister called for more widespread reforms to obtain targets for next years and for the rest of his tenure. He highlighted the government’s motto of Discipline, Integrity, Action, Creativity, Effectiveness: "We are determined to tighten administrative disciplines, promote individual responsibility, build dedicated and clean public services, and eliminate corruption and harassment. Let’s take stronger and more aggressive action to seize opportunities. Words should match actions. Incompetent and irresponsible state employees should be replaced. Let’s be more creative and effective in undertaking tasks and discover the best solutions to keep abreast with the dynamic and competitive economic trend and changing technology. We should both utilize the people’s resources and serve people the best.”
Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong pointed to major tasks, including finalizing the socialist-oriented market economy in line with the Resolution of the 5th plenum of the 12th Party Central Committee, creating breakthroughs in economic restructuring combined with growth model reform, and enhancing both labor productivity and economic competitiveness. He said: “It’s necessary to thoroughly understand Vietnam’s growth model, which increasingly relies on labor productivity and economic competitiveness. Resources should be mobilized and distributed in accordance with the market. Patriotism, national dignity, talent, creativity of people and the advantages of sectors and localities should be encouraged. People are given opportunities to participate in and benefit from growth, while growth quality should be focused on, macro-economic stability be maintained, and social advancement and fairness be enforced. Defense, security, and ecological environment should be ensured.”
Party leader Trong said he believes that the Party, people, and army will make greater efforts to build a more beautiful and stronger Vietnam.
