(VOVworld) – The government of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region decided on Thursday to cancel talks with pro-democracy students. A dialogue was scheduled for Friday to end week-long protests that have blocked a number of public areas.

Chief Secretary for Administration Carrie Lam told reporters that it would be "impossible to have a constructive dialogue" because of "undermining trust". She added that the government doesn’t permit illegal gathering and blockading of roads, and said the protestors must halt their “Occupy Central” protests.
