Indonesia: New bomb attack in East Java

(VOVWORLD) -A suicide bomb attack injured several people on the Indonesian island of Java Monday, a day after suicide bombings killed 13.

Jakarta has raised its alert status to its highest level in the wake of suicide bombings that hit three churches. The blasts killed at least 13 and wounded many others in Surabaya, East Java, on Sunday morning.

Jakarta police Chief Inspector General Idham Azis said all areas within the Jakarta police jurisdiction have been placed on the highest alert status until further notice.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Sunday condemned the terrorist attacks. The UN chief said he was appalled at reports that children were used to participate in the attacks. Guterres expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery to those injured. He promised the support of the United Nations for the government and people of Indonesia in their efforts to prevent terrorism and violent extremism through the promotion of pluralism, moderation, and tolerance.
