The new UN-Arab League peace envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, said on Sunday that it is no longer a question of preventing civil war in Syria but a question of stopping it. In an interview with France 24 TV channel, Brahimi said Syria descended into civil war for a while ago and what’s necessary is to stop it, though that is not going to be easy. Brahimi added that change is inevitable in Syria but he did not comment on whether or not President Bashar al-Assad should step down from power.
