(VOVworld) – A conference took place in Hanoi this week to underline the need for national assemblies of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to outline a new mechanism for water resource management.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Uong Chu Luu, deputy chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly, said the 132nd IPU General Assembly will be held in Hanoi next March, where member parliaments will discuss measures to boost joint actions to handle global issues including water management.
Luu said: “Based on Vietnam’s proposal, the meeting will debate the designing of a new mechanism on water management and strengthening of actions of parliaments on the issue. This general assembly plans to adopt a resolution on the matter, a key move relating to sustainable development. The resolution will act as a legal foundation for member parliaments to jointly implement human water and hygiene rights which were passed by the UN General Assembly in 2010.”
