(VOVworld) –Iraqi forces said on Sunday that they liberated the ancient city of Nimrud which was occupied by Islamic State militants two years ago.

ISIS released a video in April, 2015, showing its fighters destroying relics with drills and explosives. Located on the eastern side of the Tigris river, Nimrud was founded in the 13^th century BC. Its vast palaces and monuments have drawn archaeologists from around the world.
