(VOVworld) –Iraqi forces said on Sunday that they liberated the ancient city of Nimrud which was occupied by Islamic State militants two years ago.

ISIS released a video in April, 2015, showing its fighters destroying relics with drills and explosives. Located on the eastern side of the Tigris river, Nimrud was founded in the 13
th century BC. Its vast palaces and monuments have drawn archaeologists from around the world.
