(VOVWORLD) - Irish Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe said Tuesday that the potential of a no-deal Brexit is increasing.
Mr. Donohoe said Ireland and the EU will not change the content of the backstop agreement signed with the Great Britain last year.
The “Irish backstop”, the main reason that British Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit deal was rejected three times by the Parliament, is meant to make sure that the Irish border remains open as it is today whatever the outcome of the UK and the EU’s future relationship negotiations. Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt, two possible successors of Ms. May, said they are ready for a no-deal Brexit.
