(VOVworld) - Israel has barred Palestinians from entering Israel from the occupied West Bank or the Gaza Strip throughout the Jewish Yom Kippur holiday, the Israeli army said on Tuesday.

The blockade took effect on Monday and Tuesday and applied only to Palestinians, not to the 400,000 Israelis living in the West Bank.
Israel always closes access to Gaza and the West Bank during important Jewish holidays. Israel security forces are on high alert after a gun attack by Palestinians in Jerusalem on Sunday left two people dead and five injured. More than 3,000 policemen have been deployed in Jerusalem to ensure the holiday’s security. Traditionally, thousands of Jews come to visit the Western Wall on the Yom Kippur holiday.
