(VOVWORLD) -The Italian Government has announced its decision to offer 796,000 more AstraZeneca vaccine doses to Vietnam via the COVAX global facility to help Vietnam respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday.

Earlier this month Vietnam already received more than 800,000 doses of vaccine from Italy and has become one of the top vaccine recipients from Italy with over 1.6 million doses.
Italy is one of the EU members to offer the biggest assistance to Vietnam via the COVAX mechanism.
The valuable and timely help demonstrates the solidarity of the Italian Government and people towards Vietnam during a difficult time and a vivid proof of the long-standing friendship and Strategic Partnership between the two countries, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
On September 14, Italy sent 812,060 AstraZeneca vaccine doses to Vietnam via COVAX.
