(VOVworld) - Italy will impose identification checks at Brennero on the border with Austria to help Germany ease the flow of migrants into Bavaria, the northern province of Bolzano said Wednesday.

German police said between 300 and 400 refugees are trying to reach Germany through Austria. At the request of German Bavaria provincial authorities, Italy asked Bolzano province to impose checks on the border with Austria.
German-speaking Alto Adige region in northern Italy said imposing checks will enhance border security when Europe is facing an influx of migrants from the Middle East and North Africa but not influence the implementation of the Schengen agreement. Italy had earlier imposed checks at Brennero at Germany’s request during the G7 summit.
