President Sergio Mattarella signed a decree dissolving Italy's parliament to pave the way for a new election after three parties in Italy's government coalition boycotted a vote of confidence, leading to the Prime Minister's resignation.
The Prime Minister's decision to resign attracted attention from Italy’s partners. The White House issued a statement reaffirming its strong partnership with Italy and pledging to continue working closely with Italy on important issues. The European Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni warned that the coming time will be a difficult period.
