(VOVworld) - Japan's Defense Minister Tomomi Inada agreed with her counterparts from ASEAN on promoting closer defense cooperation, and urged Japan to participate in joint military exercises and provide ASEAN with defense equipment and technology.

At the ASEAN Defense Minister’s Meeting (ADMM) Retreat and the ASEAN-Japan Defense Ministers’ Informal Meeting on Wednesday in Laos, Japan defense cooperation and Japan’s “Vientiane vision” proposal were discussed. Also discussed were the possibility of a conference on the seas, and cooperation in internet security and post-war mine removal.

The ASEAN-Japan Defense Ministers’ Informal Meeting, initiated by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, was held for the first time in Myanmar in November, 2014.
