Japan’s NKP leader visits China to mend ties
President Natsuo Yamaguchi of Japan's New Komeito Party arrived Beijing Tuesday to ease tensions between the two countries due to a territorial dispute over the Senkaku or Diao Yu islands. This has been the first trip by a Japanese senior member of parliament to Beijing since the coalition government, which includes the New Komeito Party, was established last December. During his previous 4-day visit, Yamaguchi delivered a letter from Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Chinese leaders.

Yamaguchi told reporters prior to his trip that he hopes to meet with the General Secretary of China's Communist Party Xi Jinping to propose a bilateral summit in the coming time. He also wants to suggest to Chinese leaders that they should not let territorial disputes damage the relationship between two of Asian largest economies.
