(VOVWORLD) - The "Kremlin Report" by the United States, a potential sanction list of pro-Kremlin Russians, is an overt attempt to influence the upcoming Russian presidential election in March, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.

Peskov said this is a direct and obvious attempt to coordinate some actions with the election in order to influence it, adding that the Kremlin objects to this but is convinced that it will have no influence.

The US Treasury Department was expected to release the "Kremlin Report" on Monday. The report could be the basis for new sanctions against Russian individuals whom US authorities consider to be close to the Kremlin.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that the absence of some representatives of the Syrian opposition at the Syrian National Dialogue Congress will not affect the event’s success. He said immediate breakthroughs in the Syrian peace process are unlikely and advised all parties to be patient.
