(VOVWORLD) - Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday discussed the migration crisis on the Belarus-Poland border with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko over the phone.

The Kremlin said the two presidents noted the importance of establishing cooperation between Belarus and the EU to resolve the problem. They expressed serious concern about "the unacceptable, cruel" actions of Polish border guards, including the active use of brute force and special means.
Tensions between the EU and Belarus have escalated as the EU accused Minsk of sending migrants to Belarus, who then crossed the border to Poland and other EU countries, to retaliate EU sanctions on Belarus. Belarus denied the allegations, calling them baseless.
