Mr. Hue asked the British Government to continue to support English teaching and learning in Vietnam, share educational resources, and increase scholarships for Vietnamese students. Vietnam should increase the number of joint training programmes with ranked UK universities, he said.

The NA Chairman noted Vietnam will help prestigious British schools open branches in Vietnam. Mr. Hue said: “The Vietnamese National Assembly always supports our strategic partnership, especially in education cooperation. The Vietnam-UK Education Collaboration Forum will begin a new period of long-term education cooperation, now that the COVID-19 pandemic is under control.”

Deputy Speaker of the UK House of Commons Steve Smith said the UK looks forward to supporting Vietnam’s efforts to strengthen English language training, improve the quality of English-language teachers, assess English proficiency, and make education more inclusive.

“Now in the post-COVID world, we can get on with it and that is going to be very important to us. Education is one of the top priorities in cooperation between Vietnam and the United Kingdom and it is reflected most importantly in the number of Vietnamese students that are currently being educated in the UK. At last count, there were over 12,000 Vietnamese students are studying in the UK."

"According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training, the UK ranks first in the number of international training cooperation programs in Vietnam with 74 transnational programs in 23 British universities. Vietnamese students chose to join the UK universities, they come to the UK simply because of its political stability,” said Steve Smith.

At the Forum, the visiting NA Chairman witnessed the exchange of MoUs between Vietnamese and UK universities.
