Libya ready for its first free elections post-Gaddafi period

The Libyan people will vote in their first democratic general election for more than half a century on Saturday. Numerous international observers and Libyan people have expressed their concerns about security prior to the vote, as many have threatened to boycott and sabotage the election.

Spokesperson for the interim government, Nasser al-Mana called on the Libyan people to vote, and to be proud of thier step toward stability and development. The country’s army has been put on full alert to ensure security.

Previously, elections held in Tunisia and Egypt, which experienced waves of anti-government protests saw Islamic parties being put in power. The Party for Justice and the Construction of a Muslim Brotherhood, in Libya is considered a leading candidate.
