(VOVworld) – The National Centre of Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said at 4:00 AM that storm Dianmu’s centre was at 20.4 degrees north latitude and 108.1 degrees east longitude in the north of the Gulf of Tonkin, about 180km to the east of the Hai Phong-Ninh Binh coast. Storm Dianmu is forecast to hit the coast from Hai Phong city to Ninh Binh province in the afternoon, with its strongest winds reaching 75-100km per hour. The storm will cause widespread downpours Friday and Saturday in the northern and north-central regions. Total rainfall should be between 200-300mm and even 400mm in some areas.

On Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung inspected storm response facilities in Nam Dinh province, where he asked the municipal and communal authorities to evacuate people from makeshift houses to concrete houses before the storm hits the mainland. Local authorities are asked to protect public places such as schools, hospitals, facilities and workshops, while strengthening river and sea dykes.
Deputy Prime Minister Dung then worked with Thai Binh province to make sure that people and fishing boats are safe.
Also on Thursday, Nghe An provincial authorities monitored mountainous areas, which might possibly see flash floods and landslides, and the reservoirs of hydropower plants. The province has assigned people to guard important transportation sites and has taken measures to evacuate people to safe places.
Quang Ninh province reports that 8,100 boats have docked in safe shelters in Cat Ba, Do Son, and Bach Long Vi. All 534 tourist boats have been taken back to shore. Fishing cages have been reinforced. The Quang Ninh provincial authorities have overseen storm preparations in localities.
