(VOVworld) – Lawyers representing the ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi filed Saturday an appeal against his death sentence and prison term.

Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Morsi to death in mid-June over charges of participating in a 2011 jailbreak during mass protests that toppled long-time President Hosni Mubarak. Besides Morsi,the Muslim Brotherhood’s top leader chief Mohamed Badie and more than 90 others were also sentenced to death. Morsi has not appointed a lawyer to defend himself and has refused to recognize the legitimacy of the court proceedings, saying he remains Egypt’s legitimate president.
