More aid delivered to areas ravaged by Typhoon Yagi

(VOVWORLD) -Politburo member and President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Nguyen Xuan Thang and a working delegation on Sunday handed 1.5 billion VND (more than 60,000 USD) to Yen Bai province to recover from Typhoon Yagi, the most powerful storm in 30 years.

Thang said Yen Bai needs to pay attention to jobs and livelihoods for affected people, soon fix the transport, school, and healthcare systems, and stabilize people's lives.

On the same day, inspecting recovery efforts in Hai Duong province, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai affirmed that the Party and State are adopting policies to support people affected by the storm.

Localities across Vietnam have sent working groups and aid packages to typhoon-hit northern provinces.

In addition to donations through the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Vietnamese Heart Fund has so far received more than 17.5 billion VND (700,000 USD). More than half of the amount will be allocated to rebuilding Lang Nu village in Lao Cai province, which was buried by a devastating landslide on September 10, leaving 52 people dead and 14 missing.

Ho Chi Minh City also sent more than 16,000 bags of family medicine along with medical staff and supplies.

The government of foreign countries and international organizations have supported relief kits and daily necessities for effected communities through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The Australian Government on September 11 allocated Yen Bai province with more than 2,7000 home repair, personal hygiene, and household living tools with a total value of 49,000 AUD. It committed to continue supporting an additional 3 million AUD.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Friday handed 700 household kits to Yen Bai province.

The ASEAN Coordination Center for Humanitarian Assistance provided Yen Bai and Lao Cai provinces with more than 7,000 kits for home repair, personal hygiene, and family activities worth more than 254,000 USD.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) supported Yen Bai province with 40 portable water purifiers and 200 multi-purpose plastic tarpaulins valued at 124,000 USD.

The Governments of Switzerland, India and South Korea are finalizing procedures to provide aid to the northern mountainous provinces of Vietnam, who are struggling to recover one week after being hit by the raging typhoon.
