NA deputies stressed that poverty reduction is a key national policy and that the NA’s approval of the program is necessary to achieve the goal of halving the number of poor and near-poor households and helping 30% of poor districts and 30% of struggling island communes improve their conditions.
Tran Chi Cuong, a deputy of Da Nang, said that poverty reduction is a humane policy to improve people's lives and urged the authorities to implement policies combining the national target programs on poverty reduction and new-style rural development and determine priority beneficiaries. The Government needs to increase the investment budget to ensure effective implementation of the program during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Cuong said.
The National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction until 2025 benefits poor and near-poor households and families who have recently escaped poverty across Vietnam, as well as residents of poor districts and communes in coastal and island areas.
Deputies also discussed investment policies to support the National Target Program on New-Style Rural Development for the 2021-2025 period.
