Delivering a speech this week at the 11th Global Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates on Monday, Mrs. Ngan said as one of the countries most affected by climate change, Vietnam ratified the Paris Agreement on November 3, 2016, before the Agreement took effect.
“With a sense of responsibility for a green planet and international support, Vietnam has deployed national strategies on climate change and green growth. Vietnam’s Law on Environmental Protection includes a chapter on climate change response. We have implemented the Law on National Disaster Prevention and the Law on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy”, Mrs. Ngan stated.
The Chairwoman said Vietnam has carried out projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adapt to climate change, and ensure transparency and publicity in the legislative process.
“The National Assembly has to oversee the government’s implementation of commitments and turn words into actions in accordance with the Hanoi Declaration at the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly last year. These activities will contribute to building a healthy planet”, she added.
