At a conference in Hanoi on Tuesday, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong said Vietnam saw some extreme weather in 2016 which suggests that climate change is faster and more severe than the scenario announced in 2012. Cuong said the Vietnamese government is taking drastic action to restructure Vietnam’s economy and agriculture sector for greater resilience and adaptability to extreme weather. He said the Vietnamese government is ready to join the international community’s efforts to mitigate the impact of climate change: “It is essential to work out measures, and enhance cooperation between localities in dealing with core issues in response to climate change. There is a need to restructure production to assure sustainable development”.
