NA Chairwoman meets Russia’s State Duma leader, Prime Minister, Communist Party Chief

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam treasures and is determined to strengthen its comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said during a meeting with Chairman of the State Duma of Russia Vyacheslav Volodin in Moscow on Wednesday as part of her official Russia visit.

Chairwoman Ngan suggested that both sides increase exchanges and co-operation between their parliaments and parliamentarian groups. She also called for greater joint efforts in in supervising and promoting the implementation of cooperative agreements signed between the two governments.

Following their meeting, the two officials co-chaired the first meeting of the inter-parliamentary cooperation committee between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the State Duma of Russia.

Earlier, in a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Madam Ngan reiterated that the Vietnamese National Assembly always supports the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive cooperation and will work with the Vietnamese Government to remove difficulties in bilateral cooperation. She called for the Russian Government’s continued support for Russian petroleum firms to engage in new projects in Vietnam that are in line with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. At this meeting, Prime Minister Medvedev lauded the fine cooperation between the two countries and businesses.

Also on Wednesday, the Chairwoman met with leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov and briefed him on Vietnam’s recent socio-economic development. She highlighted the Party’s strategies to fine-tune Vietnam’s institutions, human resource, and infrastructure to spur Vietnam’s economic development. Mr. Zyuganov said Russia considers Vietnam a priority of its foreign policy, adding that the joint venture Vietsovpetro is a symbol of bilateral cooperation.
