National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan made the statement while receiving Victoria Kwakwa, the World Bank (WB)’s Vice President for East Asia and Pacific, in Hanoi on Tuesday.

Ms. Ngan asked the World Bank to continue helping Vietnam improve its policies and legal framework to ensure macroeconomic stability and promote growth, especially in the private sector, human resource development, social harmony and sustainability of natural resources and the environment.

Ms. Kwakwa said the World Bank wants to help Vietnam deal with environmental challenges such as hazardous waste, plastic waste, and environmental protection in business. She asked the Vietnamese parliament to consider raising the capital disbursement ceiling for the medium-term public investment plan so that projects funded by concessional loans of the WB’s International Development Association (IDA) will be carried out on schedule.
