(VOVWORLD) - A national conference kicked off in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province, on Tuesday, to review the operations of the People’s Councils of provinces and centrally-run cities last year, and implement the plan for this year. National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue chaired the conference.

In his opening remarks, NA Vice Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that last year the People's Councils made great efforts and innovations implementing statutory tasks in response to the requirements in each locality.
"The provincial-level People’s Councils have made constructive changes to their oversight activities, especially after the NA Standing Committee issued Resolution No. 594 last year. The People's Councils have affirmed their role as local State authoritative agencies that represent the people's will, aspirations, and right of mastery," Man said.
