(VOVworld) – Afghan Deputy Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish said Monday that an air strike allegedly conducted by NATO in Helmand southern province killed 11 policemen and injured another four.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the counter-narcotics police forces confirmed the death toll but did not say who carried it out or give any other details.
In a statement, NATO forces declared that they carried out no strikes in Helmand on Saturday. A source said that Afghanistan’s Air Force would probably have carried out the air strikes but this force and Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry refused to comment. Helmand province, 555 km from south Kabul, is a world drug hot spot and also a venue for clashes between Afghanistan’s security forces and the Taliban over the last months.
