(VOVworld) – On Thursday, newly-elected British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said the result of the recent referendum on Britain’s EU membership on June 23 showed that London is seeking a new relationship with the EU.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Boris Johnson, who had supported the Brexit campaign, said Britain can not completely separate itself from Europe as it is impossible because of the bonds in terms of geography, shared characteristics, culture, emotion and history. Thus, Britain will enhance cooperation and partnership at the inter-governmental level, aiming to raise Britain’s position in the world. Mr. Johnson said that British officials will exert their efforts to realize the people’s aspirations following the recent referendum and rejected the suggestion that his appointment to the post of British Foreign Secretary was controversial.
