No breakthrough in US-China trade negotiation
(VOVWORLD) - There were constructive discussions between the US and China, said US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin after the 2-hour negotiation on Friday with the Chinese trade delegation lead by China’s Vice-Premier Liu He.
Liu said the new negotiation will be resumed in Beijing, but warning that there will be no concession from China in important rules. The Chinese official expressed “moderate” optimism about a trade deal to be reached between the two leading economies of the world.
US President Donald Trump insisted that there is “no rush” to secure a deal with China because China now has to pay the US 25% duties to a total of 250 billion USD of Chinese imports.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres said at the World Trade Organization on Friday that the US and China should resolve the trade tension through dialogues at WTO, adding that the tension is a big obstacle in achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
