No trace of missing AirAsia jet on 2nd day of search

(VOVworld) – There hasn’t been any sign of AirAsia’s missing Flight QZ 8501 after the 2nd day of search. Spokesperson of Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) said Monday the search may last one week or more depending on reality. He added that there hasn’t been any reliable evidence to confirm a report that Australia’s AP-3C Orion plane found debris which could be part of the missing jet near Nangka Island and an oil slick off the eastern coast of Belitung Island.

Basarnas has set up a center at Pangkalpinang airport to monitor the search and rescue operation on waters between Bangka Belitung, West Kalimantan provinces, and the Karimata Strait. Indonesia has deployed 30 ships and 15 aircraft to search for the missing jet. Ships and aircraft from Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia are also joining the search. An AP-3C Orion from the Republic of Korea arrived at the site today. France and India have offered assistance for the search service.
