South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said it detected the North firing around 10 projectiles that appeared to be short-range ballistic missiles from an area near its capital, Pyongyang, before landing in waters off the North’s eastern coast.
It said the South Korean military has increased surveillance and vigilance and is closely sharing information with the US and Japan.
North Korea currently has not officially confirmed information related to the missile launch.
The launch of a reconnaissance satellite on Monday suffered a failure, North Korea confirmed. The North Korean National Aerospace Technology Administration (NATA) conducted the launch of reconnaissance satellite Malligyong-1-1 aboard the new-type satellite carrier rocket at the Sohae Satellite Launching Ground in Cholsan County of North Pyongan Province on Monday.
