North Korea vowed Tuesday to cancel the 1950-1953 cease fire that ended the Korean War. In an announcement on the State TV citing a US-led push for UN sanctions over North Korea’s recent nuclear test and ongoing US-South Korean joint military drills, the Korean People's Army Supreme Command warned of stronger additional countermeasures, and said it will cut the hotline and cancel its mission in Panmunjom, a truce village on the border between Pyongyang and Seoul. The announcement came after US and South Korea officially started annual military maneuvers, called” Foal Eagles”, which will run from March to April. The two also planned to launch “Turnkey Solution” from March 11-21 to strengthen their defense capability. Pyongyang has strongly protested these maneuvers and considers them provocative actions.
