In a statement, Shtayyeh said he sees that the next stage and its challenges require new governmental and political arrangements that take into account the new reality in Gaza and the need for a consensus based on Palestinian unity and the extension of unity of authority over the land of Palestine.
The move comes as the international community is increasing efforts to defuse the Gaza conflict and is starting to focus on a political structure to manage this post-conflict Gaza.
