(VOVworld) – PAPI, a monitoring tool capturing provincial performances in governance and public administration in Viet Nam, has reflected Vietnam’s remarkable improvements at both local and central levels. Dr. Pratibha Mehta, the UN Resident Coordinator in Viet Nam, told reporters on Tuesday that the 2015 PAPI Report will help new leaders at all levels understand the efficiency of governance and public administration reforms in Vietnam in the past 5 years. It will also set out future goals.

Mehta said: “Nationally, PAPI is used to collect citizens' feedback and encourage public accountability by providing information at the state level to the government and national assembly system. In addition to local level findings, the 2015 PAPI report also looks at provincial performance in each of the 6 dimensions. The efforts made by local governments in Nam Dinh, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Da Nang and Long An deserves very special mention. These 5 provinces have been in the top performing group overall for the last 5 years”.

Approximately 30 cities and provinces across Vietnam are using PAPI to monitor their performance in governance and public administration. Authorities in 26 cities and provinces have issued resolutions, instructions, and action plans to improve their performance.

The Swiss Ambassador to Vietnam, Maser Mallor, promised Switzerland’s support for Vietnam: “2016 marks 30 years of Doi Moi – the reform process which has made Vietnam a remarkable developmental success story. Supporting the government and public administration has been a priority of Switzerland’s collaboration with Vietnam over the last 20 years. We further believe that this initiative has contributed and should continue to contribute to Vietnam’s government reforms which are the momentum for the country’s development towards prosperity, creativity, equity and democracy."
