Party chief urges Vietnam, Cuba to bolster economic cooperation
(VOVWORLD) - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong said speeding up economic, trade and investment cooperation is important to Vietnam-Cuba ties.

While meeting with President of Cuba’s National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandes in Havana on Thursday, Mr. Trong recommended that both sides adopt mechanisms and solutions to fully tap their potential, support each other, and improve the effectiveness of business projects to bolster development. He said Vietnam will stand by Cuba in its struggle for socialist ideology and the update of its socio-economic development model, adding that Vietnam is willing to share its experience in 30 years of renewal.
Mr. Hernandes praised the special Vietnam-Cuba relationship and spoke highly of Vietnam’s experience in the renewal process, affirming that Cuba always treasures and wants to boost its ties with Vietnam.
The same day, Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong visited the University of Havana and delivered a speech on promoting sustainable development and social equality.
Mr. Trong was granted the title Doctor Honoris Causa in political science by the University in recognition of his important contributions to Vietnam’s nation-building.
