Philippine President delivers 6th State of the Nation Address

(VOVworld) – Philippine President Benigno Aquino III delivered his 6th and last State of the Nation Address at a session of the Philippine Congress on Monday.

In his speech, Aquino highlighted his government’s achievements over the last 5 years, especially in economics. He urged the Philippine Congress to continue supporting anti-corruption efforts and approve 5 bills before his tenure concluded next June, including the Bangsamoro Basic Law, which plays a key role in implement a peace deal between the government and the “Moro” Islamic Liberation Front, the largest rebel group in the southern Philippines. The other bills include the 2016 budget bill, worth 663 billion USD, the Rationalization of Fiscal Incentives, a bill for improving allowances for retired military officers, and the Anti-Dynasty bill.
