(VOVworld)- Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and leaders of ASEAN countries on Saturday attended the opening and plenary session of the 27^th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

In his address, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung highlighted the importance of the establishment of the ASEAN Community saying it reflects ASEAN countries’ common perception and determination to boost connectivity and the organization’s growth. The Vietnamese Prime Minister said the adoption of ASEAN Vision 2025 and other plans at this summit will help ASEAN improve its position in the region. Dung stressed the importance of working out solutions and allocating sufficient resources to implement ASEAN Vision 2025 and Master Plans on the pillars of security-politics, economics, and culture-society. He laid an emphasis on strengthening unity, promoting ASEAN’s role in addressing challenges to promote peace, security and development in the region as well as its relations with dialogues partners.

Prime Minister Dung said ensuring peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea is the common interest and responsibility of ASEAN as well as other countries inside and outside the region, reflecting ASEAN’s prestige and central role. ASEAN has made great efforts to address the East Sea issue. The Vietnamese Prime Minister said the current situation requires ASEAN to be united and to promptly express concern about complications and unilateral actions in the East Sea. It’s necessary to promote the enforcement of international law, the principles of resolving disputes through peaceful means on the basis of international law including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, not using or threatening to use force, practicing self-restraint, and not complicating the situation. During stressed the need to build trust, reduce tension and prevent conflicts through ASEAN’s mechanisms. The Prime Minister urged ASEAN and China not to militarize activities in the East Sea, abide by the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and soon adopt the Code of Conduct in the East Sea.
