(VOVWORLD) - On Saturday Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with French President Emmanuel Macron, UAE Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief Executive of HSBC Noel Quinn, and WEF President Borge Brende, on the sidelines of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai. At the meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh praised the effective development of the Vietnam-France Strategic Partnership and urged the two countries to continue strengthening cooperation and implementing the issues agreed during a phone talks between Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Macron on October 20, 2023. He asked France to accelerate the ratification of the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

President Macron said that he will send some Ministers to visit Vietnam to discuss specific cooperation activities, especially in economics, trade, and investment. He affirmed that the French government has a roadmap to ratify EVIPA. He hailed Vietnam's outstanding role in implementing the Political Declaration on Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and affirmed the French government’s support for Vietnam in this process.

At a meeting with UAE Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed that the UAE supports Vietnam in building and operating the International Financial Center in Ho Chi Minh City and the National Innovation Center (NIC), and developing smart cities, renewable energy projects, and the Halal industry. He recommended the two countries to establish a joint working group in economics and investment soon.

The UAE Vice President said he would soon send a delegation of leaders of the Ministry of Investment and businesses to Vietnam to survey the market and discuss specific plans. He said the UAE identifies Vietnam as a very potential investment market, especially in renewable energy, digital transformation, infrastructure, logistics, seaports, and data centers. The two countries agreed to promote negotiations and soon sign the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

Meeting with Noel Quinn, Chief Executive of HSBC Group, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his gratitude to HSBC’s supporting for Vietnam’s green transformation. The HSBC Chief Executive spoke highly of Vietnam’s progress in green transition, effort to reduce net emissions to zero, and Vietnam's Renewable Energy Development Plan. He affirmed HSBC’s assistance for Vietnam by increasing lending to renewable energy projects and supporting international investors who are interested in Vietnam.

At the meeting with WEF President Borge Brende, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said Vietnam acquires the WEF’s recommendations, which have contributed to maintaining the macroeconomy, controlling inflation, ensuring major balances, and stabilizing exchange rates and interest rates. Vietnam aims to achieve an annual trade surplus of 25 billion USD.

Brende said the WEF has a large network of collaborating companies around the world. Its surveys show that Vietnam is one of three countries, along with Mexico and India, that investors are most interested in.

He extended the greetings of WEF Founder and Executive Chairman, Professor Klaus Schwab, and his wish that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend the WEF Davos 2024 Annual Conference. There is much desire to learn about Vietnam’s experience and if the Vietnameswe Prime Minister attends, the WEF and Vietnam would hold a National Strategic Dialogue.
