(VOVworld) – The development of a nation depends on the appropriate awareness and action, aspiration and determination to acquire knowledge and science and technology initiatives.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the statement at a ceremony in Hanoi on Wednesday to honour 57 excellent students. Among the honoured were medalists at international and regional Olympiads, the International Science and Engineering Fair, and those receiving top scores at university entrance examinations this year. He told the students that the entire political system will do its utmost to comprehensively develop the national education sector, a strategic breakthrough in the national construction and defense strategy. Dung says:
“The 8th ongoing plenum of 11thParty Central Committee is discussing a project to comprehensively renovate the education and training system to meet the country’s industrialization and modernization requirements in the context of Vietnam’s socialist-oriented market economy and international integration. We should renew our attitude towards education and education management to train Vietnamese people with intellectual skills and creativity. The educational system should be standardized, modernized, socialized, democratized, and integrated internationally but at the same time still maintain national identities.”
Dung presented the Third-class Labour Order to Ngo Phi Long, a student from the northern province of Son La, who, for two consecutive years, has received gold medals in physics at international and regional Olympiads. He also awarded the Prime Minister's merits to other Olympiad medalists.
All 36 Vietnamese students attending the Olympiads this year brought home medals.
