(VOVworld)- On Wednesday, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung attended the 13
th ASEAN Environment Ministerial Meeting, the 14
th ASEAN Plus Three Environment Ministers Meeting and related meetings in Hanoi.
In his address, Prime Minister Dung said in response to the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 that Vietnam pledged to contribute to regional cooperation. Dung said ASEAN countries paid special attention to environmental protection, biodiversity preservation and sustainable use and management of natural resources. ASEAN has signed the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and strengthened cooperation in environmental protection with partner countries. Dung said:
“Climate change, environmental pollution, food security and water resources are major concerns for the region and the world and can’t be addressed by a single country but through global efforts. Each and every nation needs to promote economic development in combination with environmental protection and include such protection in the national sustainable growth strategy”.
The Prime Minister expressed his hope that through these meetings, programs and directions for further cooperation in coping with climate change and responding to the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable development will be worked out. Dung said that Vietnam could work with the international community to announce the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions on reducing emissions at the upcoming Climate Change Summit COP-21 in December in Paris.
