(VOVWORLD) - State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited and presented Lunar New Year (Tet) gifts to representatives of disadvantaged households and victims of Agent Orange/dioxin in Long Xuyen city, An Giang province on Tuesday.

Offering the best wishes on the occasion of the most important festival in Vietnam to the administration and people of An Giang, President Phuc applauded the province’s efforts in COVID-19 prevention and control, achievements in socio-economic development, and implementation of social security policies.
He expressed his hope that the local Party organisation, administration, and people will stay united to surmount difficulties and fulfill anti-pandemic and socio-economic development tasks, thus developing the province and contributing to national development.
The same day, Mr. Phuc attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the project to connect National Highway 91 and the Long Xuyen city bypass. The project has a total investment of 90.11 million USD from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Vietnamese government.
On this occasion, he also visited some families of revolution contributors in Long Xuyen city.
Earlier, President Phuc paid tribute to President Ton Duc Thang at the late leader’s commemorative site in My Hoa Hung commune of Long Xuyen.
Ton Duc Thang (1888 - 1980) belonged to the first generation of activists in the revolutionary movement of the working class in Vietnam. He devoted his entire life to the people’s national democratic revolution and the socialist revolution.
